Grand Jury returns 29 indictments
Shane A. Tieman, Scioto County Prosecutor announced the Scioto County Grand Jury met on November 18 and returned 24 public indictments and five secret indictments. The defendants indicted are charged as follows:
Two dead after shooting in Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH - Sunday morning, Nov. 20, 2022, at approximately 0223 hours, Portsmouth 911 dispatch center received calls of shots being fired in the 700 block of Chillicothe St., just outside of Frankenstein’s bar.

Barricaded suspect in West Portsmouth
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman stated on October 28, 2022 at 4:32 pm his office received a call that a male subject at 67 Cave Lick Road, West Portsmouth would not let her mother leave. The caller advised that the male, her father, had a gun.
Four-Wheeler crash on US 52
FRIENDSHIP – The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an ATV crash which occurred on Friday, October 21, 2022, at approximately 9:01 PM. The crash occurred on US 52 near milepost 13, in Nile Township, Scioto County. A 1998 Honda TRX 300 was traveling southwest when it overturned. The driver, Austin Newman, age 24, of Friendship, Ohio, and his passenger Catherine Shear, age 25, of Chillicothe, Ohio, suffered serious injuries. Both occupants were transported by helicopter to Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
Scioto Gives, twelve hours of giving today only
One of the biggest days of the year is here for the Scioto Foundation and an unprecedented number of nonprofit organizations in the local area. Portsmouth man arrested in shooting
On Thursday, October 6, 2022 at approximately 2:14 p.m. officers were called to 2484 Mabert Road in Portsmouth in reference to a male that had been shot. Upon officer’s arrival, the victim was found outside on a front porch with a gunshot wound to his groin area. The victi was immediately transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) by Portsmouth Fire Department. SOMC treated the victim and were able to get hi sbale enough tto be transferred to a trauma center in Columbus.
West Portsmouth man arrested for rape
Sheriff David Thoroughman stated that his office received a report on October 4, 2022 from a parent stating that her underage son had been sexually assaulted while out of town in Virginia.
