TOSRV continues fall romance during 62nd ride
In recent years, bicycling has been growing in popularity, both on hillsides and on the streets. Groups like Portsmouth Connex have been striving to make the sport social and mainstream in Portsmouth again, with an entire season of events to draw people out and about. They are emphasizing this once again as partners of the Tour of the Scioto River Valley (TOSRV) bicycling event, which took place over the weekend for the 62nd year with over 400 riders.
Otway Covered Bridge Festival this weekend
The Otway Covered Bridge Festival and Car Show is being planned for Saturday, September 30 with plenty to do being pulled together by a group of dedicated volunteers from the Otway Historical Society.
Scioto County DD adds Provider Liaison position
PORTSMOUTH— The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) has created a new position to assist local providers and better serve the community. Providers, referred to as direct support professionals, are private agencies or individuals who are certified to provide a variety of services such as in-home caregiving or transportation to people with developmental disabilities (DD). Kristi Cyrus, who currently works for SCDD, will be transitioning from her current role as a Service and Support Administrator (SSA) to her new position as the county’s first Provider Liaison.

Shawnee State University offering swim lessons
Shawnee State University’s Department of Athletics is now offering swim lessons in group and private lessons. The lessons will be taught by Men’s and Women’s Swimming coach Kenzie Pennington, a past SSU collegiate swimmer and NAIA All-American honoree.

The new COVID vaccine has made it to Scioto County and will be the star of local outreach clinics countywide soon. Until then, local residents can get to the Scioto County Health Department to get their jab and help reduce likelihood of severe disease.
