WHEELERSBURG- Wheelersburg High School will have its Football Homecoming this Friday, October 4 at 6:25 pm during pregame festivities when the Pirates host the Oak Hill Oaks.
City and County first responders answer the call
PORTSMOUTH- When Helene hit Scioto County, not much time was made available to accurately plan for keeping water away from homes, moving cars out of dips and low-lying roads, or for people to evacuate areas where water could potentially pool in a worst-case scenario brought to life where massive amounts of water overwhelmed storm drains and pumps.
City evaluates flooding and storm damage
PORTSMOUTH- Hurricane Helene swept through Scioto County Friday, September 27 and left damage in her wake. Trees fell all over the county, in parks, across power lines, and onto houses and vehicles. Roads suffered from the wear. Pockets of neighborhood were flooded. Wind ripped through properties. Portsmouth may have been hit the hardest and every available city employee was dispatched to assist in some way, including some from nearby areas, such as the five firefighters from New Boston assisting. City Manager had been on alert all weekend and spent the following days evaluating the damage, having high praise for the city staff.
Scioto Foundation announces Sharon Musser Scott Nursing Scholarship Fund
PORTSMOUTH- The Scioto Foundation has announced the creation of the new Sharon Musser Scott Nursing Scholarship Fund, established by the Portsmouth native who has served the local area as a nurse and nurse educator for many years.

SSU’s Master of Occupational Therapy program teams up with AAA7
PORTSMOUTH- Shawnee State University’s Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program and the Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7) are once again joining together to provide falls prevention education to the community through a Facebook livestream series, “Fall-Free Fridays.”

While there are still missions to be accomplished and hurdles to leap in the greater Portsmouth area, there is massive progress being made all over by everyday people who are either providing a service, volunteering, serving in office, or donating to good causes. We frequently hear that we are in a renaissance, as new developments continue to pop up, new events are added to the calendar, and progress is made. But why? These things don’t manifest themselves.
SSU junior develops hands-on experience during biology trip to Costa Rica
PORTSMOUTH- Reagan Lewis (Hometown: McDermott, Ohio) recently participated in a hands-on field experience in Costa Rica to complete research at the Cano Palma Biological Field Station with Dr. Sarah Ivers and nine other biology students from Shawnee State University. Enjoying the environmental and zoological aspects of the biology field, Lewis was excited to be able to continue to expand her knowledge.
Valley High School Homecoming
LUCASVILLE- Freshman attendant, Brinley Buckle. Brinley is the daughter of Tiffany Buckle and Brandon and Natalie Buckle. Brinley participates in cheerleading and Bible Club. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, as well as running heavy equipment with her dad. Brinley is escorted by Elliot Franke, son of Aaron and Noel Franke. Congratulations, Brinley.

MINFORD- The 2024 Minford High School Football Homecoming was held Friday, September 20th. The Falcons hosted the Northwest Mohawks.
