Scioto County Grand Jury returned 27 public indictments.


SCIOTO COUNTY- Shane A. Tieman, Scioto County Prosecutor announced today that the January term of the Scioto County Grand Jury met on February 3, 2023 and returned 27 public indictments. The Defendants Indicted are charged as follows:

Portsmouth man arrested after shooting


PORTSMOUTH-Scioto County Sheriff, David Thoroughman, states that his Office received a 9-1-1 call at 3:09 am on Friday, January 27th, from 2090 Riddlebarger Road, from a female reporting that her daughter had been shot.

Wheelersburg wins District Mock Trial Competition


PORTSMOUTH-The Scioto County District Mock Trial Competition took place on Friday, January 27, in all four courtrooms at the Scioto County Courthouse in Portsmouth. The team from Wheelersburg emerged as the Scioto County District Champions and will now advance to regional competition on February 17, joined by the Runner-Up team from St. Joseph Ironton and advancing team Valley High School.

Scioto Foundation adds Bradbury to board


PORTSMOUTH-The Scioto Foundation has named Barbara Lapp Bradbury as a new member of its Board of Governors. Active in many community activities and retired after several years of full-time service in various positions at Shawnee State University, Bradbury brings a wide breadth of experience in education and administrative proficiency to her new position.

PPD banquet awards officers and civilians


The Portsmouth Police Department had a busy year in 2022, and, to celebrate the successes of the department, they held an awards banquet for the officers in recent weeks at Ollies Bar and Grill.

Passing of Sergeant K9 Gold


WAVERLY-The Waverly Police Department (WPD) regrets to announce the passing of Sergeant K9 Gold, a long-time dual-purpose working K9 assigned to our department. The eleven-year-old Belgian Malinois passed at Ohio MedVet on Saturday morning, January 28th, 2023 with his handler Sergeant Taylor and family along with Chief Winfield. Sergeant K9 Gold began his career with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 and transferred to the Waverly Police Department in 2016. Sergeant K9 Gold was born in France on October 27th, 2011 and was trained in tracking, article searches, handler protection, building searches, narcotic detection, and criminal apprehension through Storm Dog Tactical K9. Sergeant K9 Gold, throughout his career, assisted multiple agencies, countless drug seizures, evidence location, and apprehensions of fleeing suspects.

SSU’s Dr. Paeng hopes to inspire service


The C.H. Lute School of Business at Shawnee State University welcomed new faculty member Seongcheol Paeng, Ph.D., in the Autumn 2022 semester as part of an expansion of faculty at the school.

Identity of murder victim released


The name of the suspected homicide victim that was found on October, 29 in Portsmouth around the 1200 block of Linden Avenue, has been released.
