Top ten crime stories of 2023
AUGUST—Terry Jewell was found guilty in the shooting murder of Rodney Queen, of West Portsmouth. Jewell and Queen were roommates and Queen allowed Jewell to live at his farm in exchange for help with the farm. After a night of drinking, Queen was shot in the head and died the next day at an area hospital. Queen’s daughter was a witness at the trial and gave the family’s victim impact statement. Jewell is imprisoned at the Noble Correctional Institution for a minimum of 20 years to life on the charges of murder and having a weapon under disability.

The artwork of local seniors was recently showcased at the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s 41st Annual Senior Citizens Art Show that was recently held at Bristol Village’s Glenn Activity Center in Waverly.
JFS has a spooktacular trunk-or-treat
Scioto County Job & Family Services, which includes Scioto County Children Services, conducted its inaugural Halloween Trunk or Treat event Thursday, Oct. 26. This was the first time the agency held the event at the 710 Court St. building since the merger with Children Services in July 2022. Last year, the event was at the former CPS location in New Boston.

ONEOHIO BOARD of DIRECTORS— The next meeting of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation Board of Directors is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, 34 S. 3rd Street, Columbus, OH 43215. The Grant Oversight Committee will also meet at the Ohio Chamber at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 13.
