WHEELERSBURG — Following his graduation from Wheelersburg High School this spring, Caleb Arthur is trading his Pirate colors for that of Morehead State University — as the Class of ‘23 senior officially signed his letter of intent to join the Eagles’ football program in May.

Arthur was a four-year member of ‘Burg’s football and basketball program, as well as spending two years in the baseball program.

“Very exciting. Growing up and playing sports all my life, it’s a blessing by God to have the opportunity to go on and play at Morehead,” Arthur said, at his signing.

During his senior season on the gridiron as a Southern Ohio Conference Division II first team selection, Arthur and the Pirates finished the season 9-4 in the Division V, Region 19 semifinals.

Later that school year during basketball season, Arthur earned SOC II second team honors, as well as being named to the OPSWA Special Mention All-District list.

“It was a blessing,” Arthur said, of playing at Wheelersburg. “

“The culture is a family — I love that about Wheelersburg. It’s always been a family in every sport that I’ve played here. Hopefully that can translate to Morehead.”

After exploring his options of where he might continue playing football at the collegiate level, Arthur relayed that his choice came down to a family-like atmosphere at Morehead that was felt during numerous visits.

“Had a wide variety of schools I was looking at. When I went on a visit to Morehead, the coaches and players all welcomed me like family,” Arthur said. “Loved the campus, went to some practices and their spring game. Loved the effort and intensity they had, so looking forward to that this coming year.”

Upon enrolling at Morehead, Arthur is planning to pursue a degree in Biomedical Science.

On the field, his coaches has stated they plan to use his abilities as part of their defense.

“I’ll be playing defensive side of the ball there, linebacker or safety. They need someone to come in and work their way into those positions; I’ll come in and do the best I can for the team.”
