A few minutes after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Scioto County Sheriff’s deputies brought in the man they believe is responsible for several thefts in the area. Jeff Carver, 40, of 523 Calvert’s lane, West Portsmouth. He was flanked by detectives Jodi Conkel and Matt Spencer, as they exited an unmarked cruiser for the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and the Scioto County Jail in a heavy downpour.

Since identifying Carver as their suspect, law enforcement agents had been on the lookout for him, and they found him and arrested him Wednesday afternoon.

“He was apprehended at Upper Twin Creek,” Captain John Murphy told the Daily Times.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his detectives had been actively working on several cases of theft around the county that had occurred in the last few weeks. The victims of the thefts filed reports that sometime overnight an unknown person had damaged vehicles to get inside and steal items of value.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Carver, and that resulted in a search warrant being served at the suspects residence located at 523 Calvert’s Lane, West Portsmouth. During the search detectives, along with probation officers, said they were able to locate several items that had been reported stolen to include purses, gift cards, fishing poles, shoes, clothing, gps units, sunglasses and jewelry. Detectives had been in contact with the suspect by phone and believed that he, along with his wife, and children had been staying in a camper at an unknown location.

Anyone with any information about this case can contact detective Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091 All calls will remain anonymous.
