Traffic was backed up for the better part of an hour Wednesday following a seven-car chain-reaction crash in the 2700 block of Gallia Street in Portsmouth at around 7:55 a.m. Portsmouth police officer Steve Timberlake said a car driven by Jennifer Smith was stopped for a car that was preparing to turn left into the Portsmouth Ambulance parking lot, as was the car behind her, operated by Brandon Lore.

That is when the crashes began to occur. A vehicle driven by Pamela Taulbee struck the Lore vehicle, sending it into the Smith vehicle. A car driven by Andrew Crawford was stopped behind Taulbee, but was struck by a car driven by Jason Johnson. After the Johnson struck the Crawford car, he was also struck by a car operated by Tate Coriell. Coriell’s vehicle was then struck by a car driven by Tashana Brown.

Timberlake said Taulbee, Johnson, Coriell and Brown were all cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance, also known as following too close. All four subjects are set to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Nov. 4, 2015 on their citations.

Brown, Johnson and Taulbee were all transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center where they were treated and released.
