Friday was the anniversary of the worst act of terrorism ever to occur on American soil with the attacks on the World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan and a plane crash in Pennsylvania. Each year the people at Cash Express in South Shore, Kentucky deliver cakes with the design of the American flag to law enforcement and first responders in the area to show their appreciation for the work they do.

Friday morning, Doris Hood of Cash Express paid a visit to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office as one of her stops to deliver an American flag cake and a poster signed by employees.

“This is honoring all the fallen officers for 911,” Hood said. “This is just for everything they do everyday. We want to thank the officers for everything they do.”

Hood said the plan for the day was to deliver cakes for emergency medical services, fire departments, the Portsmouth Police Department and South Shore law enforcement officers.

“It reminds us that there are people in our community that do care about law enforcement,” Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said. “Especially with the issues that are going on right now throughout the entire country. It’s always nice to be reminded that there are people out there that do really care.”

Donini and Hood were joined by Captain Robert Woodford to cut the cake and share it with the sheriff’s department staff.

After the cake was cut, Hood was off to her next stop.
