WHEELERSBURG — According to reports from the Porter Township Fire Department (PTFD), a fire occurred at a home located 7474 Canterbury Drive, in Wheelersburg, on Saturday, July 25, which left one Porter Township fireman injured.

David Prater, a fireman at PTFD, said that a juvenile was inside of the residence of 7474 Canterbury on Saturday when a neighbor saw flames coming from the home, and assisted the juvenile in safely exiting the home. Prater said their department arrived at the scene at approximately 2:55 p.m., with a total of 14 firefighters from Porter Township at the scene.

PTFD was assisted by Green Township, Vernon Township, and the city of Portsmouth, who all supplied water to help diffuse the flames, according to Prater.

No one in the home was injured due to the fire. However, one Porter Township firefighter was injured. The name of that firefighter was not released by the Porter Township Fire Department and his condition is unknown. Prater said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, was a total loss, and remains under investigation.
