OAK HILL – The Portsmouth West Senators finally got their win over the Oak Hill Oaks Wednesday evening, after having to delay the game Monday evening.
The Senators got the 14-12 win after a three-run seventh inning, and then only allowing one Oak to score in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Both teams traded a run in the first inning, but the Senators went on a scoring spree in the second and third innings, scoring six in the third and another three in the fourth.
Oak Hill had a big third inning, and cut into West’s nine-run lead, 10-1, in the bottom of the third. The Oaks had four players cross home plate and then added another run in the fourth inning, while holding off the Senators.
After four innings, the Senators led the Oaks 10-6.
West added another run in the fifth to increase their lead to five runs, 11-6.
Just as it looked like the Senators were about to walk away with the game, the Oaks fired back in the bottom of the sixth inning, and completely erased West’s lead.
Heading into the seventh inning, both teams were tied, 11-11.
The Senators responded to losing their lead by having another big inning, scoring three runs, and setting themselves up for a win.
Trailing 14-11, the Oaks needed three or more runs to prevent a loss. Oak Hill got one run in, but that was the most the Senators were willing to give up, as they held off and defeated Oak Hill 14-12.
Cody Finley had a spectacular night at the plate, going 4-5 and scoring a run. Finley drove in three runs for the Senators as well, leading the team in RBIs for the evening.
Marty Knittel also hit well for West, picking up three hits and scoring three times. He also drove in two runs.
Oak Hill will play again on Friday evening, as they host the South Webster Jeeps. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
The Senators will host the Minford Falcons Friday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
