PHM to host Veterans Day event

Potter’s House Ministries will be hosting a Veterans Day event to honor those who have served on Wednesday, November 15, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. inside the church gymnasium at 5409 Winchester Avenue, Sciotoville.

The organization will be serving lunch, giving away commodity boxes and turkeys, and have door prizes for community members who join them. In addition to their services, there will also be booths staffed by many community organizations with information on additional benefits and more. They will also have entertainment.

“I’m excited about this event,” Potter’s House Ministries’ Amanda Flanagan said. “I have a lot of family that served in the military, and I know what kind of sacrifices they make. I want to give back and let them know that we appreciate everything they have done for us and their families.”

This is the second year this event has been held for Veterans Day, according to Flanagan.

“Last year, the Reaching Rural Veterans Outreach Program was held every month, from May 2022 through April 2023. Then, we switched it to four times a year, in July, November, January, and May,” Flanagan said. “The object of these events is to gather any resources and information veterans may need in one place, so it’s easier for them to find the resources they need. We invite various local organizations to set up a table at the events, and the veterans and community guests can visit the tables and get the needed resources.”

The organization offers many benefits throughout the year that veterans and the public can benefit from.

“PHM offers pantry twice a week, free tax services year-round, and we can assist in signing up for SNAP, Medicaid, Financial Assistance, HEAP/PIPP, FAFSA, ACA, Medicare, etc.,” Flanagan explained.
