Lodge getting groovy with prom event

The Shawnee State Lodge and Conference Center is one of the busiest destinations in the region, not only with tourists using their space to rest and relax, but local people flooding their grounds for summer activities, holiday dinners, and many special functions. One of their upcoming attractions includes a 70’s-themed prom for people to escape their lives and let loose in a groovy way.

Food and Beverage Manager Terry Stevens says that he and his staff have been working on focusing efforts on new directions that give the community night out options.

“We have been trying to come up with new ideas for events for our community,” Stevens said. “We have done several murder mysteries; craft shows and even a few jigsaw puzzle competitions. We thought the adult prom would be a great way for everyone to get dressed up and enjoy an evening away from the kids.”

The 70’s theme is more than just a fun night out; it is also a symbolic one for the Lodge.

“The lodge opened in January of 1973, so this year is the lodge’s 50th birthday,” Stevens said. “What better way to celebrate 50 years than throw a big party for our amazing community and what more of an appropriate theme then the 1970’s when the lodge first opened its doors.”

Stevens is enthusiastic about the night out and hopes that people embrace the theme and show up in outfits that scream 1970’s attire.

“We absolutely encourage people to dress the part,” Stevens said. “Of course, it’s not required but we would love to see everyone in their 70’s attire. After all, we will be crowing a prom king and queen for the best dressed!”

Stevens claimed that the Lodge is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the county and boasts some of the highest tourism numbers around. It is also an important hub for the community and those that call Scioto County home.

“As I stated before, the lodge opened its doors in 1973,” Stevens explained. “The lodge has been a staple in our community in several ways over the past 50 years. We have hosted hundreds of events such as conferences, weddings, and retreats. The lodge is open to our community for meals, the lounge, pool access or to simply come out and enjoy a seat on the veranda overlooking the amazing view. Shawnee forest is a short drive away from anyone in Scioto County!”

The lodge is available to anyone in the community and Stevens hopes to open doors for the Prom event with the simple goal of entertaining people and giving them a memorable night.

“Our goal is simple—we want everyone to have a good time! We want people to come out and enjoy prom whether you’re 18 or 81,” Steven said. “Some people may have never experienced a prom, but now is your chance! Get your tickets and help us celebrate 50 years!”

Stevens explained that the cost of admission includes entrance to prom and light hors d’oeuvres. There will also be a cash bar available.

The Lodge’s 70’s Prom will be Saturday, May 20, between 7 p.m. and midnight. It is $30 per person or $50 per couple.
