Elected officials will get a first hand look and gain first hand knowledge of the work being done in the Scioto County area by the Scioto Water Conservation District (SWCD) in a tour scheduled for this Friday, June 24.
The SWCD will take elected officials on a tour that will depart from the Scioto County Welcome Center, located on Second Street in Portsmouth and return to that location in the afternoon.
“I have confirmation from (Scioto County Prosecutor) Mark Kuhn and (First Ward City Councilman) Kevin W. Johnson locally and from State Senator Joe Uecker, as well as confirmation for aides attending from Congressman Bill Johnson and Congressman Brad Wenstrup’s offices,” Kate Sowards, Scioto SWCD Conservation Education Coordinator, said. “Several of our local partners will be joining us from Farm Service Agency, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and Scioto County Farm Bureau.”
The tour will depart from the Welcome Center in Portsmouth at 9 a.m. and travel throughout the county highlighting several projects and showcase the work of the Scioto SWCD with the goal of raising awareness about that organization and their work. The tour includes a lunch and will wrap up at the Welcome Center at around 3 p.m.
“The tour’s purpose is to raise understanding about our district and to highlight the work we do in the community,” Sowards said.
Soil and Water Conservation Districts exist in each county in Ohio. Scioto SWCD is funded partially by the Scioto County Commissioners and Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Soil & Water Resources.
Scioto SWCD offers free consultations to county residents for many topics. They also will assist with helping you find the help you need with any environmental concern.
According to the agency’s website their mission is helping to maintain, conserve, and improve Scioto County’s natural resources.
