Northwest Students advance to Nationals

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Northwest High School’s members of the Ohio association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) joined more than 1,000 other members from across the state in celebrating the Ohio State Leadership Conference April 28- April 29.

This event took place in Columbus, Ohio at the State Fair Grounds. This year’s theme was “Building Champions for 70 Years.” During the State Leadership Conference, members from all over Ohio competed in Star Events.

These events were planned and carried out by members to address teens and societal concerns and show how Family and Consumer Sciences education can help them achieve the ultimate leadership experience.

FCCLA is a dynamic and effective national student organization that has more than 220,000 members and nearly 7,000 chapters from 50 state associations and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. This organization has involved more than ten million youth since its founding in 1945.

At the State Leadership Conference the team of Grace Seison, a freshman, and Brianna Maynard and Bre Law, both sophomores, presented their Chapter in Review Display. This project explained what the chapter did throughout the year. The also received a gold medal and placed 2nd in their division. This qualified them to compete at Nationals in July in San Diego California.

Senior Tabitha Thomas competed in both Career Investigation and Illustrated Talk. Her topic was about the drug epidemic in Scioto County. She received a gold medal in both events, and her 3rd place in the state with her Career Investigation earned her a spot at Nationals as well.

Brianna and Bre also both completed their Power of One and was recognized at state and will also be recognized at Nationals.
