Troopers seize 200 grams of heroin in arrest of two Ohio residents

Authorities have seized some 200 grams of heroin with a street value of $20,000 and arrested two people in the process in Scioto County.

Janiece Spence, 19, of Lima, Ohio, and Rashad D. Davis, 24, of Fremont, Ohio, are facing charges of possession of heroin and drug trafficking, both felonies of the first degree.

The arrests were made following a traffic stop Monday in Scioto County.

Troopers from the Jackson Criminal Patrol unit said they stopped a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on U.S. 23 southbound near mile post 8 at approximately 2:15 p.m. Monday evening for a traffic violation.

Troopers said after approaching the vehicle, they observed what they referred to as “criminal indicators.” A patrol K9 was deployed and troopers said the K9 unit indicated to the vehicle. The subsequent search reportedly revealed 200 grams of heroin in the vehicle. The approximate street value of the heroin is $20,000.

“It feels great to get it off the streets,” Lieutenant Karla Taulbee of the Jackson District of the OSHP said. “There are so many people overdosing locally that any amount removed helps. Troopers have been doing an awesome job with drug interdiction in Scioto County. I am very proud of the hard work they do, day in and day out, to help alleviate the heroin epidemic striking southern Ohio.”

Spence, the driver, and Davis, the passenger, were incarcerated in the Scioto County Jail.
