Notre Dame wins Father Patterson Wooden Bat Tournament

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Notre Dame Titans picked up a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon defeating the Huntington Ross Huntsmen and then the Rock Hill Redmen to take the championship at the Father Patterson Wooden Bat Tournament.

In the tournament’s opening game, the Titans edged out a win over the Huntsmen, 3-2.

Hayden Baker took the mound for the Titans in the opening game. He pitched a complete game, going all seven innings and allowed only one hit. While the Huntsmen did score two runs on Baker, only one was earned. The Notre Dame hurler walked eight batters in the game, but also struck out 14 Huntington Ross batters.

CJ Corns and Truman Hash led the Titans with hits, as both went 2-3 from the plate. Corns scored one of the three Notre Dame runs, while Hash drove in two runs.

Conley got the loss for the Huntsmen, being the pitcher of record. He pitched six total innings allowing three runs, one earned, off seven hits. The Huntsmen hurler walked one batter and struck out six in the endeavor.

Huntington Ross was held to a single hit during their game against Notre Dame. Long got the sole hit for the Huntsmen, a single. He went 1-3 on the day.

After defeating the Huntsmen 3-2, the Titans went on to play the Rock Hill Redmen. The Redmen and the Titans played in the championship game. Rock Hill advanced in the four-team tournament after defeating the North Adams Green Devils.

It was another one-run game for Notre Dame, as they played in the championship game at the Father Patterson Wooden Bat Tournament.

Rock Hill broke the stalemate between the two teams in the third inning. The Redmen were able to score one run in the inning, to take a 1-0 lead in the championship game.

The Titans would continue to trail 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when they scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead over the Redmen.

Notre Dame held off the Redmen in the top of the seventh, preventing a Rock Hill score, to win the Father Patterson Wooden Bat Tournament after defeating Rock Hill 2-1.

Tyler Speas got the win for the Titans pitching a complete game for Notre Dame. In his seven innings of work, Speas allowed one run, which was unearned, off seven hits. He also walked one batter and struck out two.

Sam Kayser, CJ Corns, and C. Rodriguez all had a hit for Notre Dame in the championship game.

Kayser went 1-2 with an RBI, while Corns was 1-3 with an RBI. Rodriguez went 1-2 in the game, and also drew a walk.

Notre Dame will next take the diamond on Tuesday evening at home, when they host the Ironton St. Joseph Flyers in a sectional finals match-up between the two teams. The Titans enter the game as the first seed, while the Flyers are seeded eighth.

St. Joe defeated the Sciotoville East Tartans on Saturday afternoon to advance to the sectional final round.
