A Franklin Furnace man now faces multiple murder charges after indictments were handed down by the Scioto County grand jury. Anthony Carl Colvin, 33, of 235 Gervais Road, is charged with four counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder (same two victims), two counts of aggravated robbery, one count of aggravated burglary and one count of having a weapon while under disability.
According to Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini, Colvin was involved in the murder of Bobby Dehart, 83, of 248 Greenbriar Road, Lucasville and Nancy Culp, 62, of 248-A Greenbriar Road, Lucasville. Both were found shot to death inside the Bobby Dehart’s residence on April 13.
When Colvin was apprehended, Donini said detectives had been investigating the circumstances surrounding the case continuously since receiving the call around 9:47 p.m., on April 13, from a neighbor of the victims who had called to advise dispatch that her husband had seen lights on inside the residence and thought it was unusual for the lights to be on during that time of night. He had gone over to investigate and discovered two people inside lying on the floor. They were not moving. Deputies and detectives arrived on the scene and discovered the two victims had been shot to death
After developing a suspect in the case, detectives were able to locate and arrest Colvin at a residence located at 2449 White Oak Road in Peebles around 7 p.m. on Monday. Donini said Colvin attempted to flee from detectives by exiting through a window but was apprehended.
Donini said detectives learned during the course of the investigation that the suspect was a known acquaintance of Bobby Dehart who had visited him at his house in the past and was actually invited into the house by the victim on the night in question. Donini went on to say, after visiting for a short time, Dehart caught Colvin stealing money and an altercation ensued, resulting in Colvin shooting Culp who had entered the residence to investigate the disturbance. He then allegedly shot Dehart prior to fleeing the house.
“He’ll (Colvin) be served,” Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn said. “Judge (Howard H) Harcha (III) has his underlying cases, two counts of identity fraud and grand theft of a motor vehicle, so if those (murder) cases aren’t assigned to him they will be sent to him because he has the earlier cases. Once he (Colvin) has been served with a copy of the indictment, the judge will schedule it for an arraignment. Then we’ll start the process here in Common Pleas Court.”
