McDermott convenience store robbed

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office is investigating another convenience store robbery in the area.

According to Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini, deputies Jay Springs and Nick Williams were dispatched to the Stop and Shop at 164 Rushtown Road in McDermott on Wednesday in reference to a robbery.

When deputies arrived on the scene, an employee told them she and another employee were in the back of the store cleaning up when a man wearing a blue zip up hoodie, black pants and a face mask, entered the building and walked directly to the back of the store where the employees were and demanded all the money.

Employees said his face was covered from his neck up to his nose with only his eyes exposed, while also having his hood zipped up over his head.

The employees reportedly told deputies the man told them he was not joking and that he had a gun in his coat pocket. He then reportedly walked toward the cash register in the front of the store.

One of the employees handed him an envelope containing $100 dollars, but he demanded all of the money. When the employee informed him they didn’t have a key to the cash register, they said he became upsed and decided to leave, but first told them he would be back.

The employees said the man ran west, up McDermott Rushtown Road.

Last week, a Portsmouth Convenience store was robbed in much the same manner, but when an inquiry was made at the Portsmouth Police Department about that robbery, there was no response.

In that robbery, a woman was ordered to get on the floor at gunpoint.
