PORTSMOUTH — The office of Attorney General Mike DeWine will only verify that they took documents from the office of the Scioto County Cancer Center on Tuesday morning.
“Our office’s Medicaid Control Unit was participating in a search warrant that was led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General,” Dan Tierney, a spokesman for the office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said. “We participated at three locations — the Scioto County Cancer Center in Portsmouth; the Adams County Cancer Center in Seaman and the Clermont County Cancer Center in Batavia.”
Earlier in the day a spokewsoman in the communications office of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office told the Daily Times she could just confirm that the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, part of the Health Care Fraud section of the AG’s office, executed search warrants at the office located on Gay Street in Portsmouth.
The spokeswoman said the AG investigators were just one of multiple agencies involved in the operation, referring all requests for further investigation to the office of U.S. Attorney for the southern District of Ohio, Carter Stewart.
The Daily Times had earlier reached out to that office and spoke with Jennifer Thornton, who, in an email response, said she was not able to provide details on any investigation.
Thornton went on to say, “If there are public court documents or proceedings, I’ll be happy to alert you to those.”
No other details were made available. However, the Scioto County Cancer Center posted this on Facebook Tuesday afternoon:
“We appreciate all the care and support we have been receiving. Patient care is and has always been our number one priority. We treat our patients as if they are family and we will continue to do so. All centers will be open tomorrow and will operate normal business hours. We apologize for any inconvenience that may occur. We are confident that our good name which we have worked so hard to establish will be cleared.”
