Bryan Rolfe celebrates 1000

Bryan Rolfe of the Valley Indians scored his 1000th point this season against the Portsmouth Trojans. He rallied his team from a 3-point deficit in the fourth quarter to claim a 60-52 win, as he went off with 30 points. Rolfe has been putting up those kind of scoring numbers all year, so it comes as no surprise that he joins the 1000-point club.

“It’s a big accomplishment for me,” said Rolfe. “Not everyone can do it. To be in that kind of category with other great players means a lot.”

As a four-year varsity player, Rolfe knew coming into the season he was close to the mark.

“I knew it was possible the game before the Portsmouth game, but it didn’t happen for me. It was a tough game against Trimble but we came out with the win anyway. The next game against Portsmouth, I needed 15 points and managed to get it. In the game I really didn’t notice it until they told me.”

Bryan has very clear goals for the rest of the basketball season. With only two losses on the year, him and the Valley Indians have a real shot at doing something special with their senior core.

“I want to make a deep run in the tournament just like we did my sophomore year. I’d really like to win the SOC, too.”

Bryan is in the unique position to have been coached by his father, Scott Rolfe.

“It’s been a blessing to watch him on both the football field and the court,” said Rolfe. “From fourth grade all the way up to tenth grade we spent all spring and summer traveling to tournaments for basketball. It’s an amazing feeling to watch him perform. It was so rewarding watching him hit this milestone because you know what he put into it. The hours and hours in the gym have really paid off.

“He had a totally different role as a freshman and sophomore, and his role changed last year but he didn’t take as many shot attempts as he does now. He’s working harder, he wants to score and lead the team. Bryan is our leading assist and steal guy with Blake Howard right behind him. Bryan is leading in scoring. Bryan is second in rebounding to Bryce Romenello. I think it took pressure off him, honestly. The Trimble game he struggled a bit because I think he was thinking about it too much. He came back and played his normal game against Portsmouth and it happened within the flow of the game.”

Bryan Rolfe is looking at three colleges thus far: Findlay University, Ashland University, and the University of Charleston.
