PORTSMOUTH – The Shawnee State women’s basketball program has released its slate of contests for the 2015-16 season, head coach Jeff Nickel announced Wednesday.

In all, the defending Mid-South Conference (MSC) Tournament Champions will host 15 home games over the course of the year, starting with a home date against Midway College on October 31.

For the next three games thereafter, Shawnee State will host contests at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium against nonconference foes before taking to the road for its first away contest of the season against Asbury (Ky.) on November 12.

During the following week, the Bears will begin MSC play with a rematch against the team that they edged in the conference championship as Campbellsville – who finished as the No. 2 team in last year’s NAIA Division I Coaches Postseason Top 25 Poll – comes to Portsmouth on November 19. That matchup will be followed two days later with a contest against St. Catharine on November 21.

For the next five dates, the Bears will make the trek outside of the area again as Shawnee State will head to New Orleans first to play in the Xavier (La.) Classic, where the Bears will take on the host squad as well as Dillard (La.) on November 26 – Thanksgiving Day – and November 27.

On the following week, the Bears will make another trip to Asbury, this time to play in the Asbury Classic, which will be held on December 4 and 5. In addition to those contests, Shawnee State also has a date on the road with rival Rio Grande sandwiched in between the pair to give the Bears a quintet of marquee matchups.

Shawnee State will return home on back-to-back days during the second weekend of December as Point Park (Pa.) will travel to meet the Bears on December 11. On the following day, Asbury will travel to Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium to play Shawnee State, exactly one month after hosting the Bears at their own site.

Ten days later, Shawnee State will head to the Deep South as the Bears will participate in the University of Auburn at Montgomery Classic for the second year in a row as the women will take on the host school, as well as Faulkner (Ala.), for the second year running.

The Bears will open the new year with three straight conference games at home, with Georgetown, Lindsey Wilson, and Cumberland (Tenn.) playing on January 7, 14, and 16, respectively.

Following the trio of contests at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium, the Bears will take to the road for the next four conference matchups to end the month.

On February 4, Shawnee State will return home to face Cumberlands (Ky.) and two days later, will play Pikeville – who was the No. 23-ranked team in the NAIA Division I Coaches Postseason Top 25 Poll – on February 6, with the latter contest also serving as part of Homecoming Weekend.

Following the pair of home bouts to start the month, the Bears will click off a quick two-game tilt against Cumberland (Tenn.) and Lindsey Wilson on February 11 and 13 before returning home to play their final nonconference contests against Thomas More (Ky.) and Kentucky Christian on February 16 and 20, with the Kentucky Christian contest being set as the Senior Day festivities for the team.

Shawnee State will close out its regular season schedule with an away bout at Georgetown before heading to Frankfort (Ky.) to play in the Mid-South Conference Tournament, which will be held on March 3-6.
