Sports Release
PORTSMOUTH – The Shawnee State men’s basketball program has released its slate of contests for the 2015-16 season, head coach Jeff Hamilton announced Wednesday.
The Bears, who will host 13 home games over the course of the year, immediately open the season with a tough contest on October 31 as Shawnee State will play Northwestern Ohio, who finished 22nd in the NAIA Division II Coaches Postseason Basketball Poll, at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium.
Shawnee State will follow that home date up with a pair of home slates against West Virginia Tech and rival Rio Grande on November 8 and 10 before capping off the week at the Cougar Homecoming Classic at Mount Vernon Nazarene University with contests against Mount Vernon and Marian (Ind.) on November 13 and 14.
In the third week of November, the Bears will officially start Mid-South Conference (MSC) play as Shawnee State will host Campbellsville University – the defending MSC Conference Champion and one of four conference opponents that finished in the NAIA Division I Coaches Postseason Basketball Poll in 2015 – on November 19, with a home date at St. Catharine following on November 21.
After a home contest against Alice Lloyd (Ky.) on November 23, the Bears will take to the road for the next half-dozen contests, with a return trip to Rio Grande and the renowned 32nd Annual Ivanhoes Classic at Taylor (Ind.) being the headliners.
Shawnee State will make the return trip to Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium for the following four contests, beginning with a December 29 battle against Taylor and ending with a trio of conference matchups against Georgetown (the No. 19-ranked team from last year’s Division I NAIA Poll), Lindsey Wilson, and Cumberland (Tenn.) on January 7, 14, and 16, respectively.
The Bears will then take to the road for their next four contests, with three of those games – Cumberlands (Ky.), Pikeville, and Campbellsville – featuring matchups against NAIA Top 25 opponents from last year.
Shawnee State will return home for the first week of February as the Bears will host Cumberlands (Ky.) and Pikeville in return trips to Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium on February 4 and 6, with the latter contest serving as part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities.
After two more contests on the road against Cumberland (Tenn.) and Lindsey Wilson on February 11 and 13, Shawnee State will host Life (Ga.) on February 18, which will serve as Senior Day for the Bears.
Shawnee State will cap off its regular-season slate with another pair of away games against NCAA Division II opponent Davis and Elkins (W. Va.) and Georgetown, with the Mid-South Conference Championships looming on March 3-6 in Frankfort, Ky.
