The Wheelersburg volleyball team began its quest for another SOC II title on Tuesday night, and they did it in style. The Pirates swept Valley 25-22, 25-13, 25-17 on opening night at Wheelersburg High School.

The Pirates (1-0, 1-0 SOC II) were led by senior Marley Hanzel, who led the team with 11 kills on the evening. Setter Kasey Bergan had an efficient night passing, recording a team-high 21 assists, while Ellie Ruby came up with 10 digs defensively. Senior Sydney Holden had a big night behind the service line, coming up with 13 points.

Wheelersburg takes the floor again on Thursday when they travel to South Webster. Valley also is back in action on Thursday when they head to Portsmouth West.
