GREENUP, Ky. — The Greenup County Health Department is seeking to assist parents with school-aged children in finding out whether or nor their child needs to receive vaccinations or a physical exam as part of their school’s enrollment requirements. In light of this, the Greenup County Health Department is setting aside a few days to ensure the children of Greenup County are protected.

Connie Wilburn, the nurse administrator and nurse practitioner for the GCHD, said vaccines are vital, and help to protect children against diseases and death.

“Vaccines are important because they are a safe and effective way to protect against serious sometimes fatal diseases and they are one of the most important things that you can do to protect the health of your child,” Wilburn said.

This service is offered primarily to children that are uninsured, under-insured or if your family doctor does not offer vaccinations. The dates for the Greenup location are Aug. 5, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Aug. 6, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m; and Aug. 11, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to GCHD, parents will not need to make an advance appointment for their student on these days. Either show up at the health department that morning at 7:30 a.m. or call at 8 a.m. to be scheduled for later that day.

Other information regarding vaccinations:
