Ky. woman dies in I-64 crash

CARTER COUNTY, Ky. — A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 64 at the 167 mile-marker which occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Friday, resulted in the death of an Olive Hill, Ky., woman, according to reports from Kentucky State Police Post 14.

In a release from Trooper Michael Murriell, public information officer for KSP Post 14, the vehicle operated by Beth Ann Thompson, 49, of Olive Hill, Ky., possibly hydroplaned on the water covered roadway as she traveled east on I-64.

Authorities say that Thompson’s vehicle came to a stop on the roadway and was struck by another vehicle when it became disabled. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carter County Coroner.

According to reports, all occupants utilized their seat belts, and drug or alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Aside from Thompson’s fatality, there were no injuries reported.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Forrest Newsome. KSP was assisted by the Carter County EMS, Grayson Fire Department, and the Kentucky Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
