The McDonald’s of Scioto County have partnered with the Steven A. Hunter Hope Fund for an event aimed at raising funds for the organizations weekend backpack program.

The super hero themed event will take place at the Portsmouth McDonald’s on July 6 from 5-8 p.m.

According to released information, “The manager of Portsmouth McDonald’s, Ray Shonkwiler, has spent years hosting many events that benefit local schools and children with autism. His most recent endeavor is to help feed the 750 kids Mark Hunter feeds with Steven A Hunter Hope Fund. From June 22 to July 6, Rosemount, Portsmouth and Wheelersburg McDonald’s will be selling paper icons to go in the windows, with a goal to reach $6,000.”

On July 6, local teachers will be working the registers to earn 20 percent of sales. Shonkwiler said the managers and crew of McDonald’s will be dressed up as superheros during the event. He said there will also be a DJ and dance party ongoing outside, costumed superheroes and other fun games for kids during the event.

“The more people we get in, the more money will be donated,” Shonkwiler said.

Shonkwiler said through the Hunter Foundation, they have the potential to help a lot of children.

“I want to help our community. The old saying goes, ‘children are our future,’ that’s true, but children are also the future of our local restaurants and businesses,” Shonkwiler said.

Shonkwiler said in addition to the goal of raising $6,000 through the sale of paper icons, 20 percent of sales during the event will be donated to the fund. Shonkwiler said with the right community support a lot of money could be raised.

According to information from the Hope Fund almost 1-in-3 children in Scioto County are food insecure. Through the Seven’s Power Pack Club 750 children are helped every weekend in 11 public elementary school in Scioto County and two elementary schools in Pike County.
