A Memorial Day message for our elected officials in Washington DC: As we reflect and honor those who have sacrificed for our great country, we should also look forward, to ensure that our troops have what they need to successfully complete their missions, and return home to us safely. With emerging nations ramping up their defense systems and developing next-generation technology of their own, we must ensure that we provide our men and women in uniform with the most advanced equipment in the world. Buckeyes should be proud that our state is playing a large part in some of the next-generation weapons systems that will protect our nation for decades to come. Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Greene County is leading the way by managing the research, development, testing and procurement of some of the most advance technological weapons systems to arm our warfighters. One such weapon system is the F-35, the world’s only multi-role fifth generation stealth fighter with unmatched capabilities. Ohio’s historic and ever-expanding defense and aerospace sector is contributing significantly to the F-35 program. From Cincinnati to Cuyahoga Falls, there are more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs related to the F-35 in Ohio. The Russians and the Chinese, who are developing their own fifth generation aircraft, are eager to displace the USA as the world’s foremost fighting force. I say, “not if Ohio has anything to do about it.” State Representative Rick Perales of Beavercreek is Co-Chair of the Ohio Aerospace Caucus, a member of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, and member of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame
