Author Faire held in Greenup

GREENUP, Ky. — The Greenup County Public Library (GCPL) was saturated with local authors for the Authore Faire held Saturday, June 25.

Local authors from KYOWA Writers, a writing group composed of authors from Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia, had tables set up throughout the library, displaying a collection of books of a variety of genres.

MJ Wixsom, a published author of Flatwoods, Ky., and a member of KYOWA, said the Author Faire is an ideal time to become acquainted with talent in the Tristate.

“KYOWA Writers is sponsoring this today. We have about 20 authors here from Frankfort, Ky. to West Virginia, Ohio, and some local Kentucky authors,” Wixsom said. “Everybody has their books set out, and we have a Kindle with a scavenger hunt. It is just a nice opportunity for the public to come and meet authors, and see their books, and see how much talent we have here in the Tristate area.”

Linda Bryan, a published author and member of KYOWA Writers, has published 10 books since 2014.

“Since 2014 I have published 10 books, Bryan said. “All of my books are Christian based. My book, ‘Journey With Max and Me,’ I would love to see it get into the prison system for people who have lost hope. ‘Jessie’s Tears’ is my life story of abuse, and I would love to get that into women’s shelters to let the women know that you can rise above whatever situation you are in. These are little books that you can slip into your purse or pocket and go on. It is truly a God thing. I give him all of the credit. When the ideas start flowing, I just grab a pencil and paper and just write.”

The event offered mini workshops on the following topics:

Tighten Up Editing, Writing From a Local Perspective, Unleashing Your Creativity, Self Publishing, Getting Started, and Creating a Simple Journal.

KYOWA Writers meet on the second Saturday of each month at Guardian Animal Medical Center in Flatwoods, Ky. For more information send an email to: [email protected].
