‘Cream of the Crop’ accepting submissions

The Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center is now accepting entries for the biennial juried ‘Cream of the Crop’ art show. Submissions will be accepted June 2 through 4.

The event is held every other summer and offers patrons an exclusive opportunity to view art from regional artists living within 85 miles of the museum.

To be eligible, artists must be 18 years of age or older, and must live within 85 miles of Portsmouth.

The artist can enter up to three works as long as they have been created within the last three years and never exhibited at the Southern Ohio Museum. All works will be up for sale and the artist must be willing to part ways with entries.

To submit work, artists can pick up a pamphlet at the museum that contains the entry form, identification labels, rules and regulations.The entries must be delivered to the Museum reception desk between June 2 and 4 during regular business hours, along with the $25 entry fee. The identification labels must be attached to the upper left corner on the back of all two dimensional works and the underside of each three dimensional piece.

Tess Cortez, the director of the Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries at Wright State University in Dayton will have complete authority over all exhibition choices and she will jury the works on June 6.

The exhibit will celebrate the exhibit on June 11 from 6-8 p.m. Exhibitors will be granted 2 free admission passes for the night.

Tickets are $20 for museum members and $25 for general admission.

The exhibition will be on display from from June 11 until August 12.

Works not juried into the exhibition can be picked up starting June 7. Works accepted into the exhibit may be picked up between August 11 and 13. Any works left unclaimed beyond August 20 will become property of the museum.
