Titans get two big wins

The Notre Dame Titans had a big week. First, they won the sectional championship, shutting out St. Joseph’s of Ironton 4-0. Two days later, they officially won the SOC I championship with a 3-0 win over Green.

Against the Flyers, CJ Corns and Drew Cassidy combined to pitch the shutout, with Corns giving up the single hit in the game and recording 10 strikeouts. Sam Kayser was big at the plate, going 2-3 with two RBIs. Hayden Baker also batted a run in for the Titans.

“Coming off a sectional championship win and having to play the next night for our conference championship was tough,” said Titan’s Coach Drew Mader. “We preach to our kids that they have to keep doing their thing, and taking it one pitch, at-bat, and inning at a time.”

Hayden Baker kept that mentality in mind, as took the mound against Green in his last appearance at Notre Dame Field and threw a no hitter to clinch the SOC title two days later, 3-0.

Chase Rodriquez was big at the plate in that game, going 2-3 at the plate with two RBIs. CJ Corns also brought home a run.

“Winning the SOC of a second time as a coach means a lot to me because of the hard work our kids have put into this season,” said Mader. “For the younger guys, this is their first SOC title. For the seniors, it’s their second. I believe our senior leadership has been great, and they know the importance of every single game.

“Winning the title is our first goal every year. Beating great teams like Green, Symmes Valley and Clay in this new back-to-back format really speaks volumes for our pitching staff. We knew coming in that we had four to five pitchers that could throw each night. Give them credit, they worked all winter long and it has paid off. They totaled 11 shut outs this season, including 2 no-hitters.”

Notre Dame is now 18-6 on the year, dropping only two games after returning from the spring break trip in Florida.

“Our regular season was a success, but we will continue to prepare for tomorrow and take it one game at a time. In the end, our pitchers know it starts with them and the defense will take care of the rest. Coaches Dan Cassidy and Matt Mader have done an outstanding job this year helping to prepare the kids. I’m extremely lucky to have them on the staff.”
