RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte has developed a fitness program with youth in mind called Firm Fitness Kids

Boot Camp (FFKBC). FFKBC is a new workout opportunity for children ages five to 12, to be conducted at OLBH community fitness facility, Firm Fitness located at 2000 Ashland Drive on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m.

Firm Fitness Kids Boot Camp incorporates basic physical fitness principles to motivate and engage children in learning healthy habits in an environment that is safe and provides an experience that is also fun for youth.

Kelley Wheeler, an aerobics instructor at Firm Fitness, and lead instructor for Kids Boot Camp, said their mission is to assist in child development of healthy exercise habits, as well as development in other areas.

“Our mission is to help your child develop healthy exercise habits, and to aid in developmental elements such as leadership, respect, team work, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity and coordination,” Wheeler said. “Whether your child is an athlete or not, this unique class was formulated with your 5-12 year old in mind.”

Kevin Compton, Bon Secours Kentucky Health System Communications and Advocacy Specialist, said they want children to learn the fundamentals through the FFKBC class.

“This is a first for us to be able to offer a class at Firm Fitness geared to children. It’s important that kids learn the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle at an early age and we hope this class can be part of that education,” Compton said.

Firm Fitness at Bellefonte Pavilion has always offered boot camp classes for adults. Firm Fitness at Bellefonte Pavilion manager Ryan Arnett, said their objective is to eradicate talk and belief about children being inactive.

“We wanted to add something for children because you so often hear about how inactive our kids have become and we want to help change that,” Arnett said. “It’s a great opportunity to start kids on the path to fitness early and to challenge them while also providing them an opportunity to have a lot of fun.”

Included with membership is free access to popular offerings such as Zumba, yoga, Pilates and toning classes. Firm Fitness at Bellefonte Pavilion offers personal training services with both male and female trainers available.

Firm Fitness Kids Boot Camp is free to the children of Firm Fitness members and $5 per class for non-members. Firm Fitness is located on the ground floor of Bellefonte Pavilion 2000 Ashland Drive in Russell, Ky. and is open Monday through Thursdays from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Fridays from 5:30 a.m. until 7 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

An additional location for Firm Fitness was opened in Wheelersburg in 2015, according to OLBH.
