Monday was an exciting night for Melissa Knapp and her Green Lady Bobcats, and was quite possibly a perfect beginning to a very busy week. On day one of a four game week, the Lady Bobcats came out victorious, defeating Rose Hill (KY), 50-38.
Last week, Knapp commented on how her team was starting to turn the corner and play more effectively as a team, and Monday night’s game against Rose Hill showed that change.
Green went into halftime trailing Rose Hill 24-23, but unlike many previous times this season, the Lady Bobcats came out for the second half and dominated.
The Lady Bobcat defense put a stranglehold on the Rose Hill offense in the second half, allowing only 13 points the entire half, while their offense scored 14 points in the third quarter alone.
The mostly inexperienced Green squad had another impressive scoring quarter in the fourth. The Lady Bobcats added 11 more points to their cause, and refused to allow Rose Hill an opportunity to get back into the game.
Green was led by Kaylynn Blizzard in their victory over Rose Hill. Blizzard finished the night with 31 points, mainly from inside the arc.
Also supporting the Lady Bobcat cause were Adrian Hall and Leslie Gallian, who each scored six points in their victory Monday night.
Rose Hill had a pair of double figure scores in Kendra Steele and Natalie Fyffe. Steele led Rose Hill with 16 points, while Fyffe finished with 13 points.
The Lady Bobcats will face off against a tough Western Lady Indians squad on Thursday evening at Western High School. Tipoff for the SOC matchup between Green and Western has been scheduled for about 6:00 p.m.
