Panthers dominate on the road

The Clay Panthers took advantage of a struggling St. Joseph (Ironton) Flyers team Tuesday night, picking up a win on the road. The Flyers fizzled in the second and third quarters, which Adam Betten’s squad took full advantage of, to secure a big win for the Panthers.

Clay ended the evening with four players reaching double figures in their 69-47 win in Ironton.

Nate Hinze led the way for Clay, scoring 22 points for the Panthers. He hit two of the team’s four three-pointers, and picked up eight two-point field goals.

Cole Gilliland had productive night for the Panthers as well, finishing with 17 points. Gilliland found the bottom of the net in each quarter, in a well rounded performance.

Brody Riffe and Cameron King also hit the double figure marker, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.

The third quarter was huge for Clay, as they outscored St. Joseph 18-9. Hinze was a big factor in the third for Clay, scoring 10 of his 22 points in the third quarter.

Clay outscored St. Joseph in every quarter, paving the way for the 22 point win.

The Panthers will face another road challenge Friday night, as they go head-to-head with fellow SOC I rival, Notre Dame. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Notre Dame High School.
