Blue Run restrictions Wednesday

If you can avoid Blue Run Road (County Road 29) this Wednesday, you probably should try to do just that. Blue Run Road will be subject to temporary periods of closure as part of construction for the new Ohio 823.

Blue Run Road will be closed on Wednesday for intermittent, temporary periods of time in order for crews from the Portsmouth Joint Venture (PJV) to clear trees. Operations will take place at various locations along the road at any time from 7 a.m. to noon, during which time, traffic will be stopped and held for five to 10-minute intervals while trees are being cut and cleared.

As the respective periods of closure will be for a limited duration, there will be no posted detour; however, motorists are advised to expect periods of delay, and they may want to seek alternate routes throughout the morning. Motorists are also reminded of the need for additional caution through the entire corridor, where crews and heavy equipment are moving in and out of the various work zones.

The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Portsmouth Gateway Group are constructing the new Ohio 823, a 16-mile, four-lane, limited access highway from U.S. 23 at Lucasville to U.S. 52 at Sciotoville. The Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway is the department’s first P3 project and the largest, modern earthwork project to be constructed in the state’s history.
