Greenup, Ky. — November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and The Diabetes Today (DT) coalition will be hosting its first Pumpkin Walk & Roll on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Greenup County Health Department.

DT coalition member, Eve Greene, RN, BSN, said, an event of this nature is critically important, because diabetes effects millions of Americans.

“November is Diabetes Awareness Month and the 14th is World DM day. We wanted to get the kids involved and make it fun, and actually engage the entire family, because diabetes is a disease that impacts the entire family,” Greene said. “So The Pumpkin Walk and Roll event is about bringing awareness of diabetes and its effect on millions of Americans.”

The event will provide numerous activities for the entire family, including a World Diabetes Day Awareness Walk, pumpkin decorating, corn hole games, health screenings and vendors. Participants are required to have a ticket for each activity, which be given in exchange for every non-perishable food item donated.

The coalition encourages the donation of these items: canned fruit in juice, canned vegetables, nuts, canned beans, canned tuna & chicken, oatmeal, whole grain cereals, crackers, pasta and rice. The theme for this year’s Pumpkin Walk & Roll is ‘Bridging The Gap Between Hunger & Health.’
