It is with great pleasure that I have the opportunity to speak with all the wonderful readers of the Portsmouth Daily Times today. For the past several weeks, many of you have seen several of my stories covering various sporting events all throughout our area. Last week, I was honored to be offered the open Sports Reporter position here with Civitas Media, for the Portsmouth Daily Times. I gladly accepted the position, and look forward to continue covering local sports stories, and showcasing the rich history this area has with athletics.
I would first like to thank the person who first gave me a love of news and sports, my grandmother Jean Middleton. Her knowledge of the news and sports greatly influenced my life.
Secondly, I would like to thank Chris Slone and Hope Comer for their belief in my abilities, and for the opportunity to reach out to all our readers on a permanent basis.
As a life long resident of the area, I know how important great coverage of our area athletic programs is to those residents within reach of the Portsmouth Daily Times. This position, while it is most definitely a dream job, and one that doesn’t resemble work in any way, is one I believe has an immense responsibility.
I pledge to you, the readers of the Portsmouth Daily Times, to do my absolute best to bring you insight into the local athletic programs in our area. The goal of my writing is to describe whatever I’m covering in such a way that those who were unable to make the event, for whatever reason, to have a feeling of watching it, through words, and feel as if they were sitting in the stands, watching the entire event.
Athletics, is in my opinion a great foundation of life. There are things learned in an athletic atmosphere that cannot be learned in other aspects of life. Sports tests so many points of an individual’s character, including ambition, drive, and integrity.
In closing, I hope to meet and exceed all your expectations, and look forward to being a daily part of your lives, as you become a part of mine. May we all grow into bigger sports fans throughout this journey.
