The Shawnee State University (SSU) Women’s Soccer team was defeated by the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders 6-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Paint it Pink game held at the Shawnee Turf. The loss gives SSU (7-6-1) its fourth loss in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Mid-South Conference (MSC).

The Bears, 1-4 in the MSC, fell behind quickly against the Blue Raiders (11-1-2) who set atop the MSC Women’s Soccer standings with a 6-0 conference record.

Once the Blue Raiders had the lead, they never let up on the Bears, who were limited to only two shots, one of which was on goal, the entire game.

Lindsey Wilson dominated game play, preventing SSU from having many attempts to score, as well as limiting their opportunities to keep the ball in the Blue Raiders half of the field.

The Blue Raiders offense kept Bears goalkeeper, Michaela Garner in a constant state of defense. The Blue Raiders finished the match with 21 shots, 15 of which were on goal.

Although Garner allowed six shots to get by her, she showed tremendous courage in front of the net. Racking up nine saves, Garner made several leaping blocks and showed her athleticism and toughness protecting the Bears goal.

In the first half, the Blue Raiders found the back of the Bears’ goal on four separate occasions. Lindsey Wilson would follow up with two additional goals in the second half, securing a 6-0 win over SSU.

Yvonne Ploeg was credited with four goals for the Blue Raiders, as well as picking up the assist for each of Lyana Perez’s two goals. The duo accounted for all of the Blue Raiders’ scores.

Following the loss, the Bears will host Cumberland University in another MSC matchup. The game is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th at the Shawnee Turf. It will begin at noon.

The Blue Raiders will host the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday, the 24th in a rescheduled matchup originally set for September 30th.
