On Thursday, Scioto County Juvenile Court Judge Alan Lemons announced the Ohio Supreme Court has issued final certification for his Family Reunification through Recovery Court (FRRC).

Lemons and over the process of establishing FRRC included an application was made to the Ohio Supreme Court. The certification process included a site visit and specific program materials were produced to standards that went into effect in January of 2014.

“This is going to be a good thing for the community because, I think it will be a more effective way to deal with the parents that that are addicts and are not properly caring for their children,” Lemons said at the time of application.

Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor commended Lemons for achieving final certification.

“Specialized dockets have proven effective at addressing persistent behaviors,” O’Connor said in a released statement.

Lemons said the established standards provide a minimum level of uniform practices for specialized dockets throughout Ohio, and allow courts to innovate and tailor to meet their community’s needs and resources.

Specialized dockets are courts that are dedicated to specific types of cases and use a combination of different techniques for holding parties accountable while also addressing the underlying causes of their behavior.

“The Family Reunification through Recovery Court is designed to quickly, creatively and effectively partner with court-involved families to address substance use and other family challenges to create a healthy, stable, home environment that allows families to permanently reunify,” Lemons said.

Lemons said there were a lot of people involved in getting the FRRC certified including his Drug Court Coordinator, Danielle Winters, community volunteers, Dr. Lorra Fuller, the Director of Children’s Services, David Huddleston and many others.
