Jaeger wins Runner of Week award

Sports Release

COLUMBIA, Ky. – For the first time in his young career, Shawnee State men’s cross country harrier David Jaeger has won the Mid-South Conference’s Runner of the Week award, conference officials announced on Tuesday morning.

The freshman was awarded with the honor after running an official time of 26:14 to finish 22nd in a 189-runner field full of NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA competitors at the All-Ohio Championship in Cedarville, Ohio on Friday, Oct. 2.

In the process of running the aforementioned time of 26:14, Jaeger set the fastest time of the male harriers as the Liberty Township, Ohio native led the Bears to a 20th place finish of 47 teams in the meet.

Over his first trio of meets to start the 2015 campaign, Jaeger has already set the bar high for his fellow teammates as the freshman finished second on the team in his first meet out at the Flyer 5K Invitational in Dayton, Ohio on Sept. 5, running a time of 16:37.5 to finish 32nd in a 77-runner field in his first meet out.

In his last pair of meets, Jaeger has led the Shawnee State efforts both times as the freshman has finished as the lead runner at the Brother Doyle Meet of Champions in New Rochelle, N.Y. on Sept. 19 and at the All-Ohio Championship last Friday in running times of 27:29.5 and 26:14.78 to place in the top 35 in both of those events, as well.

With his first MSC Runner of the Week award in hand, Jaeger officially becomes the ninth runner in the men’s cross country program to have won at least one runner of the week award. The freshman joins Keegan Rathkamp, Derek Ryan, Adam Schroder, and Joe Stewart as the harriers to have won the award at least once.

Jaeger will join the men’s cross country program in competing in the NAIA Preview at Charlotte, N.C., which will take place on Friday, Oct. 9.
