Absentee voting for the November general election has begun. On Tuesday, voters began to be able to vote at the Scioto County Board of Elections, while ballots were mailed out for absentee voters to mark and return.

“We will be mailing out today (Tuesday) close to 500 ballots,” Scioto County Board of Elections Director Julia Gearheart said.

Gearheart also released the hours that the BOE will be open for voting.

“We’re open from 8 (a.m.) to 5 (p.m.) Monday through Friday for the next three weeks,” Gearheart said. “Then the week of Oct. 26, we will move from 8 (a.m.) to 7 (p.m.).”

Voters must complete, sign and seal their voted ballots, taking care to provide the required information, including proper identification. Voted ballots must be postmarked the day before Election Day and received no later than the 10th day after the election (Nov, 13, 2015). Absentee ballots may also be delivered in person to the board of elections no later than the close of the polls on election day. They may not be returned at polling locations.

Voters have until Saturday, October 31st at noon to request an absentee ballot by mail, though they should do it as soon as possible to allow for plenty of time to receive, complete and return their ballot. In addition to the statewide mailing, voters can also get an absentee ballot by contacting the Scioto County Board of Elections for more information, or by downloading an absentee ballot request form at MyOhioVote.com.

The Scioto County Board of Elections will also be open for voting on Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1.
