Lewis County Sheriff Johnny Bivens recently had the honors of Sheriff of the Year bestowed upon him by the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association. In response to the recognition, Bivens released a statement in which he said achievement is never accomplished alone.
“No man is an island, when we achieve, we usually do so because others have helped. With that being said, I would like to thank each and every one of you who has expressed gratitude in regards to being selected as 2015 KY Sheriff of the Year,” Bivens said. “I am extremely proud and humbled for this recognition by an association of my peers. It truly reflects a combined effort from every employee of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and is a result of teamwork, where a lot of people are working toward a common goal.”
Going forward, Bivens said he will continue his focus on eradicating the drug problems in Lewis County.
“We have to stay focused on the drug epidemic, not only in Lewis County, but across the country, and locally we need to try to get these laws strengthened in regard to the Alpha-PVP, which is a misdemeanor over in Kentucky on the state level, so we will continue to lobby legislators to hopefully strengthen those laws when the General Assembly meets,” he said.
He pledged to remain true to his oath as Sheriff of Lewis County, Ky.
“As I continue to serve as your Sheriff, I commit to remain true to my oath, true to the badge and true to the people I promised to serve,” he said.
