PDT Sports Report

West at Wellston

The Senators are only 5 yards away from an 0-3 record. Job Swords chased down a wide-open runner and made a strip-tackle Friday night against Coal Grove, which resulted in the ball bouncing through the end zone, and securing West’s (1-2) victory. Swords also recorded 196 yards of total offense while claiming the only touchdown for the senators, which came on a 27-yard strike from quarterback Brady Douthat.

Wellston comes into the contest with a 2-1 record, winning the last two games. After dropping a 41-20 game at Jackson to open the season, the Golden Rockets have allowed a total of 21 points over their last two games while dropping 80 on their opponents.

Symmes Valley at Oak Hill

The Symmes Valley Vikings are coming into their annual SOC I matchup with the Oak Hill Oaks losers of two straight home contests. After falling to Buffalo High School from West Virginia in overtime, the Vikings lost a hard fought game to Chesapeake 25-14 last week.

Oak Hill is also coming into this potential title tilt with a lot to prove as the Oaks have dropped their first three contest — the latest, 17-14 affair, coming at the hands of the Rock Hill Redmen.

Portsmouth at Fairland

The Portsmouth Trojans ended their three-game home stand with a 42-0 loss to the Wheelersburg Pirates. Portsmouth (1-2) has been shutout in two of its first three home games. The lone win for the Trojans came at the expense of the West Senators, an 18-13 victory.

Portsmouth will play its first-evger OVC game Friday as the Trojans travel to Proctorville to play the Fairland Dragons who are o-3 on the season. Fairland has been outscored 127-20 during the first three contests of the season.

Ironton at Ashland (Ky.)

The Ironton Fighting Tigers are in uncharted territory. Ironton has dropped its first three games of the season and the road doesn’t get any easier. The Fighting Tigers have been battling injuries, including star running back DeAngelo Palladino. If Ironton wants to avoid an 0-4 start, head coach Mark Vass must find the right combination of players and gameplan as the Fighting Tigers travel to Paul G. Blazer High School Friday.

Paul G. Blazer (Ashland) is 3-0 on the season, including a 49-23 win over the Russell Red Devils — an opponent who beat Ironton earlier this season. The Tomcats have scored 116 points on the season and only allowed 69 to opposing offenses.

Southeastern at Piketon

The Piketon Redstreaks have started the season with a 1-2 record. Piketon’s losses came at the hands of rival Waverly, a 9-8 defeat, and a 35-8 loss against Valley last week. The lone Redstreak win came over Vinton County, a 26-2 home victory.

Like Piketon, Southeastern is also 1-2. The Panthers are hoping a matchup with an SVC opponent provides better luck than the two previous matchups with SOC I opponents. Southeastern has already lost against Northwest and Eastern to begin the season.

Waverly at Ridgedale

The Waverly Tigers pulled an early surprise last week, picking up a victory over Unioto 16-13. Waverly (2-1) has won two games by a total of four points. The Tigers step out of their Friday night routine to play a rare Saturday afternoon contest against the Ridgedale Rockets.

Ridegedale (0-3) has struggled to begin the season, allowing 136 points while only scoring 20 over its three games.

Eastern at Notre Dame

The Eastern Eagles boast a 2-1 record in their first varsity football season. Eastern has picked up wins over Millersport and Southeastern. After playing their first three games at home, the Eagles will travel to Notre Dame Saturday for their first official SOC I game in school history.

Notre Dame (2-1) has been an early surprise. After falling 21-18 in the opening game to Southern, the Titans won a 55-54 shootout at Manchester and followed that victory up with a 35-22 home win against Grove City Christian.

Both teams look to pick up an early SOC I victory, which can be vital in a ultra-competitive division.

Lawrence Co. (Ky.) at Greenup Co.

The Greenup County Musketeers quest to finish the 2015 season over .500 hangs in the balance. With a 2-2 record, the Musketeers return home after a three-game road trip where they went 1-2. However, despite returning home, things won’t get any easier. Greenup County will have to find a way to pull off a victory against Lawrence County to get themselves back above the .500 mark.

Lawrence County (3-1) has scored 133 points in three games while only allowing 64 to opposing teams.
