The Eastern Eagles are trying to rebound after a 20-7 loss to Dayton Christian, which began Friday and became much worse Saturday.

Before a lighting storm forced both squads to resume their contest on Saturday, Eastern (1-1) had suffered two two turnovers after taking a 7-0 lead.

Once both teams took the field under clear skies on Saturday, the Eagles turned the ball over five more times.

“When you do that, I don’t care who you play you’re not going to win any ball games,” Eagles head coach Scott Tomlinson said. “It was just one of those nights where we did not take care of the football.

“That’s the way it goes. It was a great learning experience for the kids.”

Tomlinson admitted he didn’t want to harp on the turnovers this week. Instead, he chalked it up as a fluke.

“I’m not going to beat it in their heads too much and have them thinking about it,” Tomlinson said. “We have never had that problem in the past. It was just one of those nights. Every team goes through that once in a while. We’re just moving on. Honestly, we didn’t even watch the game film.

“We know why we lost. It wasn’t an Xs and Os thing. It wasn’t an effort thing. It wasn’t missed assignments. Seven turnovers, we know exactly why we lost the ballgame.”

Eastern will play its third consecutive home game Friday as Southeastern comes to town. Tomlinson believes the game will be very physical affair and will be won at the line of scrimmage.

“Our kids better step up and be ready for a physical game on Friday night,” Tomlinson said. “It’s all going to come down to the line of scrimmage.”
