IRONTON — Welcome to Tank Stadium where the Wheelersburg Pirates pay visit to the Ironton Fighting Tigers. Before the teams kickoff their 2015 campaigns, here are a few last minute notes:

Wheelersburg took both matchups a year ago, a 42-16 home win in week one and a 38-7 victory in postseason play at Trojan Coliseum.

System quarterback?

The Pirates are becoming known for turning athletes into productive quarterbacks using a high-paced spread attack. Two seasons ago, Eddie Miller III made the transition from wide receiver to quarterback. Last season, Austin May became the team’s signal caller after spending the early part of his career at receiver. This year, Kyle Davis gets the opportunity to continue the trend. Davis has made his niche on the defensive side of the ball and will now run the show on offense.

There are clear skies in the forecast (zero percent chance of rain). The temperature will be around 80 degrees at time of kickoff.

Quote of the day

Pirates head coach Rob Woodward on the Wheelersburg-Ironton rivalry.

“It’s just the epitome of high-school football. Between the two teams, you know you’re going to see a physical game, you’re going to see an exciting game, you’re going to see two teams battling until the end. It’s a great game and it’s what the game is all about.”
