WURTLAND, Ky. — The Greenup County Extension Office (GCEO) is partnering with the Kentucky Alzheimer’s Association to offer a Homemaker lesson “Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters.” The educational session will be held at the GCEO Thursday, Sept. 10, at 1:30 p.m., and is free open to the public.
GCEO Agent Lora Pullin said the Alzheimer’s information session will be brief, and will serve as very helpful resource in early detection of the disease.
“Basically, this is an hour long, brief information session so that people, whether it be a family member, or somebody that they are associated with, can become familiar with the warning signs for Alzheimer’s,” Pullin said. “This will allow a person to become aware of an individual needed to seek some medical attention. It is also something that does not take up a lot of time, become sometimes it can be challenge for people to come out to something that is going to last all day.”
GCEO decided to host the session due to expressed interest from the public in learning more about Alzheimer’s.
“We have had some interest before about having a session like this, so this actually something that has been produced as kind of a package from the Kentucky Alzheimer’s Association, so they put it out there for Extension educators to use,” she said.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, memory loss that disrupts daily life however can be a symptom of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Ten warning signs and symptoms can alert individuals to early detection.
“We will have a lot of handouts so that people can take that information home and share it with others as well, that they think might be dealing with something like this. Alzheimer’s is definitely hard to deal with,” she said.
Pullin also said pre-registration for the session is not necessary.
