For the second year in a row, Jordan Tieman is the top golfer in his age group in the tri-state area.

By shooting an 81 last week at Guyan Country Club in Huntington, Tieman clinched Player of the Year honors for the 16-18 age group on the Tri-State Junior Golf Tour.

“I just tried to keep my head in the game and keep it in play,” Tieman said.

Tieman, a junior at Portsmouth West High School, credits his continued dominance of the TSJGT to his work on his ball striking and on his short game. He spent countless hours this summer on both the driving range and practice green, working on his mechanics.

“I was down there every day this year, doing something,” he said.

Tieman said he never found his practice regiment monotonous, and said he enjoyed every second of it.

In addition to playing on the TSJGT, Tieman also participated in various tournaments on the Southern Ohio PGA and the Golfweek Amateur tour. While the TSJGT holds its tournaments locally, Tieman has traveled all across Ohio to participate in various tournaments, traveling as far as Dayton.

Tieman won’t get much time off before diving in to the high school golf season. His first match for the Senators will take place this coming Tuesday, the start of what hopes will be another SOC II championship for West. Tieman also hopes to compete with Wheelersburg’s Mitchell McFarland for the SOC II Player of the Year award.

“I did pretty good last year, but I got myself into a little bit of trouble at Dogwood (Golf Course in Chillicothe), and I couldn’t get back from that,” Tieman said. “I’m ready to start it again and try and get better scores.”

Tieman has two more years of eligibility on the TSJGT, meaning he’ll be shooting for a four-peat before he heads off to college.
