The Scioto County Commissioners have awarded a contract for sewer rehabilitation and paving project in Rush Township as a part of the 2013-14 Direct Allocation Program in Scioto County. Other projects associated with the program have yet to receive a bid.

A contract to complete the work in Rush Township was awarded to Albert Breech Construction for, $178,073. The project was previously bid out, and all bids came in over project costs. The project was then rebid, with Albert Breech Construct receiving the contract.

The scope of the work includes installing 610 feet of 24-inch pipe, installing 566 feet of 18-inch pipe and 155 feet of 15-inch pipe, 160 feet of 30-inch pipe and 46 feet of 36-inch pipe with corrugated double walled drainage pipe. The project also calls for the finishing and setting of 12 ‘4X4’ and four ‘3X3’ concrete catch basins on Johnson, Maple, Sycamore, Oak and Cherry streets in McDermott. The project is anticipated to be completed within a year.

Although the commissioners were able to award a contract for the Rush Township Project, other projects associated with the direct allocation program have yet to receive any bidders.

The 2013-14 program included a new modular building for Scioto County Children’s. Once complete the building would be used for visitations and training. The modular building will be located next to existing facilities and is anticipated to cost $53,500. The project is expected to take less than a year to complete.

Both times the project has been bid out; this project has received zero bids.

“We’re trying to get that done one of two ways, one is to buy the building and contract the installation. The other is to maybe try to encourage someone to bid the entire project,” said Mike Crabtree, Chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners. “That’s what we’re thinking right now and we need to get something done one way or another. We’re running out of time.”
