GREENUP, Ky. — The Greenup County Homemakers Club will host an Open House on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the Greenup Library’s Community Room. Lora Pullin, Greenup County extension agent for Family & Consumer Sciences, will be speak purpose and function of the Homemakers, and their current need to increase their membership.

Pullin said the Greenup Club is the oldest Homemakers Club in Greenup County, Ky.

“One club in particular is Greenup that is down in their membership, and they are trying to recruit some new members,” Pullin said. “They need assistance to disperse the officer type duties. We like to have six to eight members in our clubs, so they are looking to pick up some new members. Unfortunately, due to some of the age of the members, they just are not able to be involved anymore. This is actually the first Homemakers Club that was ever established here in Greenup County. We have some members that would really like to hang on that, just for it’s heritage, and the Homemaker Club does so much for the community in general.”

Having been formed just after World War I, membership is open to any person, regardless of race, color, gender, age, religion, disability, or national origin. Members also do not need to reside in Greenup County.

Homemakers learn about energy, money and time management; foods and nutrition; housing and home furnishings: textiles and clothing; health; family life; international understanding; and community issues and concerns. Membership also provides opportunities for broader social development and volunteer services. Meetings are informal with plenty of time for fellowship, idea sharing, and show-and-tell.
