A Portsmouth man has been indicted in the rape of a five-year-old child.

Lawrence William Taylor, age 46, who is listed as homeless, was indicted by the Scioto County grand jury on one count of rape, a felony of the first degree. When Taylor was arrested in March, his bond was set at $100,000. In addition, he was held without bond on a parole violation.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office received a call on Saturday, March 14, from Southern Ohio Medical Center stating that they had a five-year-old sexual assault victim that was being transported to Children’s hospital in Columbus. Information was gathered and forwarded to a detective for an investigation.

Donini said during the investigation detectives were able to get copies of medical records along with suspect information. Detectives determined that the suspect was on parole and with the help of the adult parole officers, they were able to locate the suspect where he was detained and brought in for questioning on the following Tuesday, March 17. Taylor was subsequently arrested.
