Government and company leaders stuck their shovels in the ground last week to symbolically perform the groundbreaking for the future location of The Vision Center building on Rhodes Avenue across from New Boston First Church of Nazarene.
The new facility will have 4,600 square feet of space, a major step up from their old facility with just 2,100 square feet.
“I’ve practiced in New Boston for 33 years,” Dr. David DePugh said. “Our youngest son, Jeremy is six months away from going into practice with me. He is finishing up his externship right now. In June he will be able to join the practice and we hope to be in probably by April or maybe May at the latest.”
Jeremy DePugh graduated from Wheelersburg High School, did his undergraduate work and received his bachelor’s degree in biology at Shawnee State University. He will have his doctors of optometry degree after finishing up his externship at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia, and a three month rotation with The Eye Specialists on Gay Street in Portsmouth.
DePugh said the practice will have more exam rooms, more testing rooms, more new equipment that is being brought in for the new location.
“We’re really excited, looking forward to it,” DePugh said. “It’s going to be state-of-the-art. A lot of the equipment we use, it is going to be automated and computerized where they all kind of talk to each other and send the information from the exam rooms straight into the computer. Things that we haven’t been able to do and network in that manner and it will shoot the information to the different stations and automatically into the patient’s chart.”
Members of Village Council, led by Mayor Junior Williams, took the opportunity to officially welcome DePugh to the Rhodes Avenue neighborhood.
“We are excited that Dr. Depugh and his family and staff are so supportive of our village and we are happy to see this great long-term commitment to our community,” Councilman Mike Payton said. “Economic growth continues to come to New Boston and we welcome all businesses and industry that would like to join our community.”
